Travy Finally A Bride – Wins Old Men Senior

Scooter & Freck Tie Up Gilly & Wally

Limo Bob & Wally Grab The Big Pickle!

The Plaza Downtown

October 2nd, Scooter, Freck, Gilly, Narke, Travy, Vinny, Tommy, Hazzy & Wally chilled out with Mission Beer, Fireball & Bourbon watching SNF in Gilly’s suite before we strolled down Fremont Street and enjoyed a fun dinner @ Nacho Daddy’s.

Monday morning, we all hit a trifecta, 1) shirt unveiling, 2) pink thong man-wear for Colin 3) Da Big Guy handing out Old Crow participation medals to all! Gilly doubled up his credentials as shirt/thong VP.

Beautiful warm day golfing at Wildhorse resulted in 1st time Veggy member Colin carding a 93 to win his inaugural Veggy Open. Others to Podium were Travy with 99, Scooter & Wally each shot 101 & Tommy rounded out the top 5 with a 102. Suffering from heat stroke, former VO Champs Vinny (104) Gilly (105) and Aquaman (106) vowed to come back in better shape and stronger next year. The KC connection of Hazzy (112) and Da Big Guy (124) totally deserved their OC participation medals!

Travy picked up his 1st VO trophy with his senior (60+) championship.

We picked up G-Dawg at the airport and headed to Stage Door for a cold one & hotdog before going back to the Plaza. Colin was presented the Henricks Cup by Vinny, Danny received the senior cup from Freck. Wally’s words of wisdom included books by Og Mandino & Ben Peterson for all members.

We walked to Hennessey’s Irish Pub for MNF and Shepherd’s Pie for all! The GM sprang for a shot of Jameson to start the night. A few members stopped at Banger Brewing before heading back to The Plaza for Black Jack, 3 card & Pai Gow. We all hit the jackpot with best surprise ever, as Limo Bob graced us with his presence. He spent over a week working to restore power from Hurricane Ian, we all thought he wouldn’t make this year’s Veggy.

Tuesday pairs golf was at Stallion Golf course. 6 pairs battling for VO pair supremacy. Scooter/Freck and Gilly/Wally tied with a 99. All others just could not compete! Some funky rules, including alternate shot, Fireball shot, best ball and 1 handed club made it very interesting. Pink thong & Fireball were represented by the last place team, not a pretty sight!

After golf, we headed to the Leatherneck Club to honor our veterans. Da Big Guy spoke to every table, offered a drink to every veteran and represented the Veggy Open members with honor. We presented gifts to the owner and enjoyed spending time with those who served our country. Ghost, the owner, shared the history and the empty glasses of those KIA (Killed in Action) displayed in the bar. It was pretty touching/emotional for all. This is our 2nd year paying tribute to our Veterans, a tradition we plan to continue.

Back to the Plaza, some napped, some hit the pool, some gamed, some enjoyed standing/watching view from room window. A few members hit Dick’s Last Resort where Freck graciously provided a shot for a birthday girl! It was toes up for most by 9:00 pm, others 1,2 am.

Wednesday was relaxing cabana/pool/pickleball day. We had a bracket of 8, as some members had departed and Scooter/Gilly were on IR. The competition was brutal with team names “I Got Nothing” “Surprise Attack” “Liberty Lobbers” and “Smash Burgers” all had a chance to win. Limo/Wally dominated to a championship; Narke/Hazzy finished 3rd with a pink consolation victory. Vinny, in a friendly match, took on gimpy Gilly that resulted in a default win for Vinny. Pulled muscle for the elder statesman Gilly. For the sedentary, there was a Euchre tourney narrowly won by Scooter/Freck, stealing the deal to Victory over Limo/Wally. Very grateful for Gilly’s gaming that his casino host comped our $$$ cabana tab!

Dinner was at Circa Hotel, Saginaw’s Delicatessen had awesome sandwiches. We all gamed after and had a good time.

Thanks to Scooter’s steak generosity, there was a community bet. We played Slots and Roulette. We actually hit some nice numbers on Roulette, but Community ends as it always does, 0 funds for all.

This year’s Veggy was pretty much the same as the last 26 years. Yes, there was a phone & wallet missing for a time, no Old Crow……. but something that has not changed since the inception, friends hanging out, enjoying each other’s company.   Our Veggy motto has not changed. Although family always comes 1st, “Life is precious, spend time with friends while you can.”

Yours in Veggy,

T Wally
